The Barbara Walters Gallery at Sarah Lawrence College is pleased to present A Politics of Drawing: Proposal for a Method of Transformation, an exhibition curated by Philip Glahn and John O’Connor. The exhibition will be open from October 8th—November 6th at the gallery’s location in the Heimbold Visual Arts Center at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY. Artists: Eve Aschheim, Aleksandar Duravcevic, Raha Raissnia, Mark Shetabi, Suzanne Treister, Sam Vernon, Judy Yang and Bassem Yousri. A Politics of Drawing is a group exhibition of work by eight contemporary artists, engaging ideas and methods of critical aesthetic assessment and transformation. Rather than showcasing works that merely illustrate political ideas and agendas, Philip Glahn (Tyler School of Art, Temple University) and John O’Connor (Sarah Lawrence College) have collaborated to bring into dialogue practices concerned with what William Kentridge called the “semi-mechanical” aspect of drawing: an engagement with the sensible world as both historically determined and aesthetically constructed, an art making that traces, navigates, and reports as much as it creates, proposes, and imagines.
