FAQ
Here are some frequently asked questions and answers regarding pet portrait orders. If can’t find the information you need, don’t hesitate reach out!
Q: Do you only paint dogs and cats?
A: While dogs and cats are very popular, I am happy to paint all kinds of animals! Whether it’s a horse, a bird, or an exotic pet, I would love to capture their likeness for you.
Q: Can you add a background to my pet portrait?
A: I typically keep backgrounds simple to ensure your pet remains the focus. I can choose a palette that complements your pet’s natural colors, or you are welcome to request a specific shade. I’m happy to provide a few suggestions that I think would work beautifully!
Q: Do you share your process with clients?
I believe the process should be just as special as the final piece. I value your input and provide photo updates at every major milestone:
Initial Sketch: Ensuring the composition and likeness are perfect.
Blocking in Colors: Setting the tonal foundation and mood.
Mid-Stage Progress: Watching the fine details come to life.
The Final Reveal: Your approval of the masterpiece before it is varnished and shipped.
Q: What kind of reference photo is best for a portrait?
A: The best portraits start with a high-quality, clear photo taken in natural light (avoiding harsh direct sun or dark indoor shadows). Natural light helps me see your pet’s true colors and fine details. For a soulful, lifelike result, please try to take the photo at your pet’s eye level rather than from above. Ensure the eyes, nose, and fur are in sharp focus—highly detailed photos allow me to capture the unique personality and features that make your pet special.
Q: Is my portrait shipped framed?
A: All portraits are shipped unframed. The wood panels provide a clean, modern look that is ready to hang as-is, though you can choose to frame them later if you prefer.
Q: How long does a portrait take? Can I receive it by next month?
A: Because my style is highly realistic and detailed, the process typically takes 1-2 weeks. This includes the painting time as well as the necessary time for varnishing and drying. Varnishing is an essential step that protects your artwork from UV light and environmental damage. Depending on my current waiting list and the complexity of the piece, it may be possible to meet a one-month deadline. Please reach out to check my current availability!
Q: How is the artwork packaged?
A: Your painting is carefully wrapped in protective film and shipped in a sturdy box with a "Fragile" notice. Every portrait includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
Q: What materials do you use?
A: I paint on professional-grade, hand-sanded smooth wood panels with a sturdy 3/4-inch pine profile. These are ready to hang immediately without a frame. I use Lefranc Bourgeois Flashe vinyl paint, which is prized for its high pigment concentration, velvety matte finish, and long-lasting durability.
Q: How much does a portrait cost?
Portraits are offered at a flat rate based on your chosen dimensions. Please message me to confirm your preference:
$700 USD: 8x10” (Rectangle) or 10x10" (Square)
$800 USD: 9x12”, 11x14” (Rectangle) or 12x12” (Square)
Note: I can include up to two pets in the 11x14” and 12x12” sizes at no extra charge. To ensure a natural and cohesive look, I require a single, high-quality photo of the pets posed together.
